Isaiah's First Hair Cut

I have to warn you as you begin reading this post that it is LONG, a Mama's indulgence, if you will. The truth is, over the last four years I've become quite attached to the blonde afro you see below. You can imagine, then that today, the day the afro was cut off, was a big one. Ramin and I decided awhile ago that we'd wait until Isaiah was personally ready for the haircut. We waited and waited and waited some more and finally, a few weeks ago, he decided he was ready. We were expecting that he'd be up for nothing more than a trim, so you can imagine our surprise when he said he wanted it "short." Ramin got him all set up for a Saturday afternoon visit with Al at Al's Barber Shop. Al is a former European Pro-cyclist (which Sonny was stoked about) and has a beautiful shop in a manly exposed brick, steel and wood kind of way. He used to cut Ramin's hair and really took his time with Sonny explaining every step of the process. Here are way too many pictures of our time there today...

The Boulder Force

Isaiah and Ramin have been practicing soccer skills in the back yard for about a year now, so we thought it might be fun to sign up for a team this fall. There are soccer fields really close to our house, so we found out what league practices and plays there and got Sonny signed up for the 5 and under group. He plays for The Boulder Force U5 team, and as you can see, his jersey is bright red. He said he wished it was green, but was happy to get the uniform and has been practicing every evening with it on. Here are the photos of him playing with the gear on for the first time.

Our 4 Year Old

Yesterday our sweet Sonny turned 4 years old. I know that every parent says it, but it's true for us, too; we simply can't believe it. All signs point to this reality, though. In the last 6 months he's gotten a lot taller, his hair has grown down to the middle of his back (when you straighten it), he's gotten more passionate about the things he loves (trains, bikes, soccer, legos) and he's become a lot more articulate about...everything (yes, he is the first child of Ramin and Natalie Razavi). One of his faves lately is memorizing the words to songs from his biking movies (including the instrumental interludes) and singing them to us, well, whenever there's a break in the monologue. He makes us smile, sigh, laugh and scratch our heads-how did we get such a great gift? Here are photos of his day...
Good Morning Sonny!

The Birthday hat. I'm sure he'll thank me in later years for the orange ribbon tied neatly into a bow under his chin. "Really, Mom?"

Rapha Kitty

Yesterday, Ramin and Isaiah drove down to Denver to pick up our sweet Rapha kitty. When he got here he scoped the scene for quite awhile, ducking into corners and underneath tables, running up stairs and jumping off stairs. He flinched at nearly every noise and wasn't so sure what he thought about his new home. By early evening, though he was much more comfortable and we saw his adorable little personality shine forth. He is playful, very curious and incredibly sweet. When the boys went for their bike ride, he snugged up next to my leg on the couch and fell asleep. He slept really well in his bed last night and woke up this morning fully himself. He and Isaiah spent the morning reading books and "doing moves" (seriously, if you've ever seen Isaiah do his moves, the kitty does the same thing). They are quite the pair! Here are some pictures from our first day together.

Yummy Tomatoes

As you may have seen in a post a few months ago, this summer was my first attempt at growing anything edible. After watering and hoping for a good result, these pretty little tomatoes came forth. We've thoroughly enjoyed eating them and Isaiah loves to be the harvester. Cheers to hearty plants that don't require much of a green thumb :)
